Ransom by julie garwood7/6/2023 ![]() ![]() I have read this book multiple times and will likely revisit it in the future. The suspense element in the story was well-executed, and the romantic scenes were enjoyable. The plot is full of action, the female protagonist is a strong and resilient character, and the book features characters from the previous book in the series, which was a nice update on their lives. ![]() ![]() The attention to detail and pacing were exceptional, and the book flowed seamlessly. From the gripping start to the superb conclusion, I was completely captivated. Ransom is one of the best historical romance novel by Garwood and one of my all-time favorite HR books. As they journey across Scotland to Brodick’s stronghold, they encounter danger, intrigue, and unexpected passion. Set in medieval Scotland, the story follows the spirited Lady Gillian as she becomes the captive of the formidable Scottish warrior Brodick Buchanan after a failed kidnapping attempt. If you’re a fan of historical fiction and romance, then “Ransom” by Julie Garwood is a novel that you won’t want to miss. ![]()

Although his starting point will be a brilliantly executed copy of the original, his concern is essentially to apply a contemporary painting and sculptural approach to the works as a comment on the original piece. His earliest works appeared to be paintings of X-rays of individuals as if seen in a morgue other works were constructed as if assembled from archeological remnants and more recently, Samorì has turned his attention to re-examining famous artworks from the Western canon, notably the paintings of Spanish seventeenth century master Jusepe Ribera. At its essence, the whole corpus of Nicola Samorì‘s work is a profound meditation on time and the fragility of existence. With Hummingbird Salamander, it’s the directness of the thriller plot.”īesides that, VanderMeer says he has no desire to repeat himself. So the actual lushness of the prose was what was supposed to counteract or balance out the didacticism. With Dead Astronauts, I thought a formally experimental structure with set pieces that have a real deep emotional resonance that are almost prose poetry would clothe the environmental activism. It’s just that I like to think about what readers tell me and my subconscious comes up with things that incorporate those elements. “It’s not like these were direct responses to that class. “I think they were two different approaches to the same problem,” says VanderMeer, who will participate in an online event for Calgary’s WordFest on May 11. ![]() But they were both at least partially written in response to the author thinking about the best ways to write about the climate crisis through fiction. In fact, on the surface, there seems little stylistic common ground between the two novels. But it is, relatively speaking, far more direct in narrative and structure. Salamander Hummingbird is also not a breezy beach read.
